The Background:
Almost 3 years ago (at the height of the housing boom) my wife and I bought our first home. It was just the two of us, and we were making more than our fair share of money. So, the house seemed like a good investment. The mortgage seemed realistic. The market seemed sound.
Now we have a kid; I make far less and my wife has chosen to stay at home with our son. Though the market has suffered our property taxes have gone up every year. Per capita, we now make a third of what we did 3 years ago (and have no insurance on any of us).
The Scenario:
Politicians these days are talking about making significant changes to the way mortgages are structured. The talk is that even after a mortgage rate has been set (by the private sector mortgage company) a judge can review your case and re-set the mortgage rate.
The Question:
Though I am politically opposed to this idea I would certainly be able to benefit from it. Would it be hypocritical or moral reprehensible to chose to benefit from a political policy I oppose?
