Show me the Money

I recently took my wife's credit card from her. I know that seems very A Doll's House of me, but she is quite the frivolous spender. The problem is that she gets bored and spends money to entertain herself. In hopes of justifying my shovenistic actions I would like to give you a snapshot time line of our credit card.

My wife spent money at Retail Stores according to the following entries:
Sept 12, 12, 13, 14, 15, 17, 18, 18, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 24, 24, 24, 25, 26, 26, 28 and 30; Oct 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8.

28 transactions in 27 days, and that doesn't include Restaurants, Gas Stations, Super Markets or Department Stores.

Back to Books

I was able to only minimally think about economics and politics today. That is a nice change of pace. I was able to think a lot about books today, so I am taking advantage of that thought train.
I recently finished Adverbs by Daniel Handler. This is out of my norm, but I enjoyed it. I love absurdism and this fit the genre. I can't say that I would suggest it to anyone. I mean, I'm glad a read it, but I won't revisit it.
I then began The Ragamuffin Gospel, Visual Edition by Brenna Manning. I had just barely decided not to get the original Ragamuffin Gospel not too long ago. When I saw the visual edition at my parent's I began to regret my decision. As it turns out, it was a gift for me from my brother. I love the book, by the way. It offers wonderfully refreshing perspective and communicates in true artistic fashion.
Today I began The Wounded Healer by Henri Nouwen. I lent my copy of Adam (by the same author) to my brother a while back. I picked it up from him today because he simply doesn't have the time to read it. In the process he let me borrow The Wounded Healer. It is right up my alley. It is remarkable to me that a man can so accurately describe the life and demeanor of a generation almost 30 years prior to its emergence.

So, that's what is on my coffee table. What's on yours?

Dear Diary

I have a crush on a new job. That’s really not saying much; I’m career crazy. I think any company who bats its eyes at me is my destiny. The complete corporation with whom I will spend the rest of my life. The one who will provide for me and take away all of my stress and worries. Hhhhhh. It’s so dreamy.

I’m not the least unhappy with my current job. I’ve been working a lot of overtime (which I preemptively hated, then immediately loved and eventually needed). That overtime is being taken away. I can’t blame the guy, and I’m sure he will pay me what he can for as long as he can. But, oh this new company is… well? Perfect.

God and I have had several chats about this whole thing. The fact is I want a new job. I want a job that glorifies His name by design. I want a job were I can enjoy His presence through both of my passions. I want a job that is a blessing to His most precious of creation. That’s what I want.

Do I have faith that God will give me what I want?

No.

That’s not a crisis of confidence or loss of religion. I know that God is willing and able to do far greater than I can ask or even think. That doesn’t mean God will give me what I want. I think that means He will give me what He wants. Man, I want Him to want me to have this.

Statastician

I had a little debate game planned out that ended up being pretty disappointing. Neither candidate leaned very heavily on their personal fall-back, but more so on the ticket's. But, that's the right thing to do. After all a Vice-Presidential debate is really more so about showing yourself as a surrogate for your running mate.

With that in mind, I find in interesting that Senator Obama was referenced some 51 times (2/3 being from his running mate Senator Biden.) Senator McCain was referenced some 71 times. But 55% of those references came from... Senator Biden. Infact, by my count, Biden talked more about McCain than his running mate.

Why do you think that is?
