These Women

When I was in first grade, one of the bigger kids in my grade sort of playfully pushed me on our way home. My second grade sister jumped on his back and beat the stuffing out of him until he apologized. I knew then that my sister was tough.

--- now ---

She's been pregnant for the past 36 weeks or so. Now, I don't think I would say that the young whipper-snapper has been a trouble maker... he's just misunderstood. Really, he's been fine (except for being a little scrawny). The doctors in all of their wisdom just couldn't figure out why.

Talk about stress. You've got a doctor sitting across the room saying, "Your levels are elevated; your baby doesn't weigh what we want him too, and to be honest, I don't know what's going on right now."
Basket case? Yes.
Tough still? No doubt?

Her C-section was today. The doctor's predicted the baby would weigh 4lb 8oz. They wanted him to weigh 5lbs. My sister prayed for 5lb 4oz.
Scared? Of course.
Tough still? You bet.

Yeah by the way, he weighed 5lb 4oz.

They took him to the NICU because he was making an adorable baby noise called "grunting." So, for the first 8 hours of his life my sister wasn't able to hold or even see her newborn son.
Antsy? Well, yeah.
Tough still? You should have seen her.

I will always be impressed with these women.
