Sorry for the delay. I wrote this several days ago, but never posted it.
Recently we elected a new president. Whereas I am not a fan of this Politian, I plan to respect and support both the person and office. This post is NOT about clarifying my political views. I already did that. This post focuses on some of the things I like about President Elect Barack Obama.
Number 1:
He deserved to win.
I am in the marketing/designing business. This is the first time that a presidential candidate has had a logo, slogan and promotion that has been up to par in the advertising world. Truly the Joe-Rack O-Biden campaign set a precedent for elections to come. They did a terrific job with branding, connecting, interacting and inspiring. They were both personal (with text messages) and public (with an infomercial). He is the product I would want to buy.
Number 2:
He is socially minded.
President Elect Obama seems to have a true understanding of social (and perhaps global) injustices. He seems to approach these injustices with an agenda. He has the potential to encourage our nation to (how shall I put it) redistribute our wealth to those in need. Even lower-middleclass Americans are far more affluent that most people in the world as well as in this country. A President that can bring this dilemma to the forefront might help us reach a state of jubilee without the need for socialism nor the possibility of capitalism.
Number 3:
He is unusual.
I am a huge fan of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. I do not in the least agree with the numerous people who claim that his dream has been realized. His dream was not of political power or social retribution. His dream will be realized when the color of one’s skin is not noticed. This is not the finish line. This is however a refreshing second wind in the marathon toward equality.
Number 4:
He is postmodern.
I have been reading a book written in the 70’s kind of guessing about leadership in the postmodern world. Turns out the author was right. If this book were re-released today it would be under a new title: Why Barack Obama will Become President. He is the ideal leader for this new era. He will lead with energy. He will be followed with enthusiasm. He will take us someplace exciting.

Well, THAT was a surprising breath of fresh air in an internet world that's been bombarded with Christians touting the "I'll pray for our nation because we're totally screwed now - Behold the coming wrath of God" etc. etc. etc.
Doom and gloom all around...but not from you, so that was nice.
*sighs happily*
Refreshing indeed!
Re; your number 2 though, what I like even more is that he appreciates/understands the problems we have at home. He wants to help Americans live better. Not just lower middle-class Americans. But the working poor. People who work 2 and 3 jobs and still can't make ends meet.
I have love for the destitute in other countries and my heart bleeds for children who don't have access to medical care or clean water. But as the president of a nation, one must also care for the destitute in his own country.
For the first time in a long time, we've discussed how to help the REAL people in America and not just the upper-middle class or the billionaires. So that makes me happy too.
This particularly frustrating to me when Cindy McCain was interviewed a few times and spoke a lot about helping people in other countries. To an heiress like her (and by extension, to Mr. McCain), poverty is something that other countries have to deal with. Something they can build a wall up about, send over some supplies and college kids and call it a day.
Programs people! We need grassroots and subsidized programs!
Anyway. Okay. I'm stopping.
Lovely post though. With the inauguration coming up, I hope we can all stay together and keep positive about making this country great again.
Woo patriotism!
